On the 27th of March I had a full day at Google Engage Academy – stuffing my brain with everything AdWords, online display and taking your services and skills to the next level.

I met new people and “new new” people and old familiar faces, learned a lot from Cardinal Path and drank a hell of a lot of coffee :)

These are five quick points from everything I took with me:

  • Connecting Google Analytics and AdWords is easier then I thought and enables insight in your customers sales funnel from multiple online channels. Nifty.
  • Google+ button will play a bigger part in the “search” algorithm in the future
  • 80% of all websites in the world are available through the Google display network – as an old online display fox, I see the benefit of cutting out all the other “networks” to get to the websites I want to advertise on (I suppose this can be a budget and a country specific question as well)
  • A powerful combination of three;  display, adwords & analytics  leading to a well built website of course – for online success
  • On non-conversion based clients – define success and apply a value to it – even though it’s a download of a PDF, a phone call, a specific page of your customers website.

I’m happy and grateful for getting the opportunity to participate at this event and that Google actually are starting to host these in Gothenburg. Last year I went to Stockholm for an equally amazing day – on another level though. However what I  really appreciated this time was the intimate and open atmosphere on the sessions – there was a smaller audience since we where divided up in two groups after  your knowledge level.

I was inspired and motivated to nail my certifications when leaving for the day I actually went straight home typing out all my notes and hitting my study books/iPad!

And finally, here is the secret to Dynamic keyword insertion:

  • {keyword:default text}
  • use exact syntax – no spaces!
  • replace default text with something real which AdWords can insert if it cant insert your keyword for whatever reason it may not be able to display the word in your ad.
  • Capitalization follows where you place the capital letter in the word keyword, KeyWord, KEYWORD – that’s how your keyword will be displayed in the ad.

Enjoy ;)

Lastly for you who do not know what Google Engage Academy is – this is a great opportunity to get support and training to further your skills and knowledge about Google’s products. And in return get even better in serving your clients and help small businesses succeed online. You get training, support and get to go to events like these to get inspired to learn more.

A weekend of disconnect for someone who wishes to reconnect

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

With no internet, no computer, no tweets, no nothing!

Waking up to Geraniums, spooky ones.

Spooky Geraniums

Having books with breakfast, not computer with breakfast.

Best breakfast ever

I stole these, from mother nature. So I thought, what a perfect weekend to plant flowers. That is very analogue of me.

Seeds

My awesome plant house. This is where baby flowers come from. (I didn’t steal this)

Planting seeds

Admiring simple things, such as my butterfly wall. I’m a quite mean vegan. But I love them though. Rather on my wall then someone else’s. Most of them are from Greece but my blue pride to the right I bought in San Fransisco.

Butterfly wall

Healthy food for a healthy mind. Pure vegan yummyness.

vegan yummuness

I made this up myself. It’s a sprout tabbouleh. It makes your hair grow an inch overnight. It’s true.

I sent analogue messages out to the world, that had to be shared, on homemade stationary cards.

Messages to the world

I spent my first afternoon on the new balcony, drinking tea, writing down thoughts and planning the rest of my life. On paper, with a pen.

I’m probably the last person in the world to blog about WebCoast, but nevertheless I am finally writing this down.

Last weekend I attended a “unconference” – a visitor generated conference here in Gothenburg  Sweden with the focus being on web.

I didn’t really know what to expect and went there with an open mind and loads of curiosity. And I’m so happy and grateful that I attended the event:

Inspiring sessions:
I had the most magnificent weekend, meeting new people, and attending interesting sessions on everything from writing an publishing your own book, to creating successful marketing through  combining offline with online media, listening to a Google+ walk through and so much more! Spot on for me.

Inspiring people:
One of the most fun things of the weekend was getting to meet all the people, listen to them and get to know other souls which shares my passion for all things web. I love meeting people in general – so I had a blast.

Nourishing a vegan brain:
I also appreciated that they made an effort with the food – being a vegan and all, sometimes you don’t always end up with the most creative food efforts. At WebCoast they made an effort which fueled me through the long days (and nights!)

I had an awesome time, really, and I’m happy that I made this investment in myself. I have so many ideas in general and WebCoast have helped me connect with other people on the same wavelength and inspired/urged me to see these ideas of mine through to completion. Just do it!

Vintage finds

Vintage spoonsI lived without teaspoons for years. I don’t buy things just because I may need them. If I buy something, I have to really, really need it AND I have to love whatever I am buying. I’m happy that I waited. I got 12 vintage teaspoons for £2 at a secondhand shop. Love them. To pieces.

What a week!

This week I have:

Source: tumblr.com via Veronica on Pinterest

  • Hosted a presentation for an intense (insane) project at work – complete with Margaritas, 2 a clock in the afternoon. Motivation in a glass my friends.
  • Donated large amounts of my possessions to a charity. There will be more.
  • Got my head around AdSense – it’s easy once you are approved :)
  • Bought More Then A Pretty Face by Caroline Cain, where yours truly is thanked in the end of the book from being a participating member of the book’s name team on Twitter. Not only that – with the purchase of the book – 30%  went to the charity Horseability. (You get to choose yourself from 3 different charities – love it!)
  • Posted off my application to attend a Google Engage event in Gothenburg, Sweden. Hooray for me, hope I get a seat to expand my brain and knowledge.
  • Posted off a very, very important letter, and I hope to the universe that that little piece of paper will generate the much sough after outcome. Rad, I tell yeh.
  • Planted a seed for a future trip – LAS VEGAS BABY! not if, but when!
  • The quote of the dead person of the week goes to one of my personal heros – Andy Warhol:“Being good in business is the most fascinating kind of art. Making money is art and working is art and good business is the best art.”

Compassion

Compassion

Definition from Wikipedia:

Compassion is a virtue — one in which the emotional capacities of empathy and sympathy (for the suffering of others) are regarded as a part of love itself, and a cornerstone of greater social interconnection and humanism — foundational to the highest principles in philosophy, society, and personhood.

There is an aspect of compassion which regards a quantitative dimension, such that individual’s compassion is often given a property of “depth,” “vigour,” or “passion.” More vigorous than empathy, the feeling commonly gives rise to an active desire to alleviate another’s suffering. It is often, though not inevitably, the key component in what manifests in the social context as altruism. In ethical terms, the various expressions down the ages of the so-called Golden Rule embody by implication the principle of compassion: Do to others what you would have them do to you.[1]

The English noun compassion, meaning to suffer together with, comes from the Latin. Its prefix com- comes directly from com, an archaic version of the Latin preposition and affix cum (= with); the -passion segment is derived from passus, past participle of the deponent verb patior, patī, passus sum. Compassion is thus related in origin, form and meaning to the English noun patient (= one who suffers), from patiens, present participle of the same patior, and is akin to the Greek verb πάσχειν (= paskhein, to suffer) and to its cognate noun πάθος (= pathos).[2][3]

Ranked a great virtue in numerous philosophies, compassion is considered in almost all the major religious traditions as among the greatest of virtues.”
